Work has now started on the £35m Westgate project, which is being developed by Liverpool-based Illiad. The mixed-use scheme will help to create a vibrant town centre and a cafe-culture atmosphere along the waterfront, bringing together apartments, shops and offices.

This project is an excellent example of the town's aspirations, as well as its attractiveness to national and regional developers. It will also be the first development to be completed in accordance with the Design Code, a blueprint being piloted by Rotherham and eight other local authorities for the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister
