Living over the shops
Bringing new life back into the town centre needs more than just shops and offices - we are also trying to convert vacant space above shops into high-quality apartments.
A pilot project was carried out by the Equity Housing Group, which converted redundant floor space into eight residential apartments, all of which were sold and are now occupied.
This scheme proved that Renaissance plans for bringing people into live in the town centre will be a success. The Townscape Heritage Initiative plans to carry out further work in making the maximum use of listed and other eligible buildings to provide more apartments.
