One feature of the new centre will be a walk in service for treating minor illnesses and injuries outside normal GP hours. Anyone will be able to walk in without an appointment to see a GP or other healthcare practitioner between 8am and 8pm, seven days a week.
Rotherham Community Health Centre will also provide modern and accessible facilities for most of the primary care services that are currently based at Doncaster Gate Hospital - Ear Care Centre, Audiology, Speech and Language therapy, Community Physiotherapy, Community Dental, Sexual Health & Family Planning, Minor Surgery, Diagnostics, Phlebotomy, Walk in Centre, out of hours GP services, Health advice centre and pharmacy. Community Dental Services, the Rotherham Community Health Centre and the GP out of hours service will also be relocated within the facility alongside a new pharmacy.
New services available in the community will be x-ray, ultrasound and echo-cardiography which GP's and other health professionals will be able to access for their patients. this will help ensure quick diagnosis, leading to even quicker treatment.
Construction began on Rotherham Community Health Centre in September 2007 and it is due to be open in November 2008.
